One stock figure, every channel: inventory sync without oversells
An oversell is an order you cannot fulfil, a cancellation on your record, and on some marketplaces a penalty. It happens when two channels each believe they can sell the last unit. The fix is one available quantity, pushed to every channel, with reservations taken the moment an order arrives.
Available, not on hand
- Channels receive available stock: on hand minus what is reserved for open orders, never the raw on-hand figure.
- Downward corrections are pushed first, because an oversell costs more than a missed sale.
- Every connected channel is polled every five minutes for new and changed orders; a reservation is taken on import, before the stock sweep.
- A kit is sold as one thing and ships as several; its availability comes from its components, never from a quantity of its own.
Why an oversell still happens, and what corrects it
It is almost always one of two things: a reservation released late because an order was cancelled on the marketplace and polled after the sweep, or stock received into a location after the last push. Both correct themselves on the next sweep; the order can be cancelled or fulfilled from another location. The product says which of the two it was.
Stock that moves is scanned
- The scan console reads a GTIN or SGTIN from a barcode scanner or a phone camera and resolves it to a SKU. An unknown code can be attached to a SKU on the spot.
- Scans move stock between locations and confirm picks, so the on-hand figure is what was scanned, not what was typed.
- Replenishment forecasts demand per SKU and suggests a restock at each vendor's own lead time, so a slow vendor's SKU is flagged early. A suggestion becomes a draft purchase order.
Questions
- How fast does a sale on Flipkart reduce stock on Amazon?
- Within the poll interval, five minutes, plus the push. Downward changes go first.
- Does FBA stock count?
- FBA inventory is read from Amazon and shown; it is Amazon's to sell, so it is not pushed to other channels.
